Medication Aide Certification

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) can complete this additional training to become certified to dispense medication to patients while working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This class is approved by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and meets the 140 hour requirement. The state exam is scheduled at the end of the class. Eligibility requirements include: employment in a nursing home as a certified nurse aide with 90 days experience during the past year and a high school diploma or GED. Tuition includes text. All students must come in for an initial appointment before the course begins to complete the application paperwork. No discounts. Instructor Mary L. Piker, RN, BSN, BBA.

Pharmacy Technician

This comprehensive 50-hour program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Course content includes pharmacy medical terminology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions, and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Through classroom lecture and hands-on labs, students will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the “top 200 drugs”, I.V. flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, and billing and reimbursement. All required course materials are included in the price.

Dental Assisting Program

The Dental Assisting Program prepares students for entry-level positions in one of the fastest-growing health care positions. The Dental Assisting program will cover key areas and topics exposing the student to both classroom and hands-on instruction. The classroom instruction reviews the necessary anatomy, terminology, legal and ethical issues as well as the policy and guidelines necessary to understanding the scope of practice and the practical aspects of dental assisting. Topics include instrument identification, equipment maintenance, tooth structure, oral cavity anatomy, dental anesthesia, sterilization, and charting. The student will learn the steps necessary to assist the dentist while providing quality dental care within the community. The program includes a review of tooth charting, restorations, bridge implants, bitewing, panograph, and periapical x-ray and the mixing of dental cement. Tuition includes all required course materials.

HVAC Technician Certification

The HVAC Technician The HVAC Level 1 program is designed to prepare students to function as entry-level HVAC Technicians and assistants in residential and commercial environments. HVAC Technicians install, maintain and repair many different types of HVAC systems. The purpose of this program is to prepare students to perform entry-level HVAC maintenance and repair tasks. The HVAC Technician Program This course covers the following key areas and topics: ? Safety: Safety issues and practices, personal protective equipment, use of critical safety information ? Trade Math: Basic math, measuring and calculations related to general trades and HVAC systems ? Hand Tools: Identifying how to use various types of hand tools including measurement and cutting tools ? Power Tools: Identifying how to use various types of power tools ? Construction Drawings: Identifying and describing various types of construction drawings, including their fundamental components and features ? Basic Rigging: Identify and describe various types of rigging slings, hardware and equipment ? Basic Electricity: Power generation and distribution, electrical components, AC and DC circuits, and electrical safety ? Heating: Heating system fundamentals and the combustion process, types and designs of gas furnaces, basic heating installation and service ? Cooling: Refrigeration cycle fundamentals, HVACR system components, refrigerants, heat transfer principles, system control concepts ? Air Distribution: Air movement, measurement and system design ? Piping: Basic copper, plastic, and carbon piping practices, tubing, fittings, and joining techniques ? Human Relations and Communication: Excellent human relations, communications, and customer service skills Education & Certification ? The HVAC Technician student should have or be pursuing a high school diploma or GED. ? In addition to facilitating entry-level HVAC positions, students will be prepared and qualified to sit for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 Core and 608 Small Appliances (Type I) Certifications ? Students are eligible for an optional externship with a local employer after successful course completion Detailed Program Objectives ? Applying principles of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration to the installation, maintenance and repair of HVACR systems ? Applying safety practices to HVACR installation, maintenance, and repair practices ? Knowledge of hand and power tools ? Ability to read construction drawings ? Describing trade licensing, certification, career paths, and responsibilities and characteristics available in the HVACR trade in residential, commercial and industrial areas ? Performing basic math and measuring tasks required in the HVAC trade ? Applying knowledge of electricity and electrical safety to HVACR installation, maintenance and repair ? Applying knowledge of heating, cooling, and air distribution systems and individual components to the HVACR installation, maintenance and repair ? Applying knowledge of different types of copper, plastic, and carbon steel piping in HVACR tasks ? Preparing, soldering, and brazing copper tubing safety ? Measuring, cutting, reaming, threading, installing, and joining steep pipe in HVACR projects

Ukulele Class (Grades 1st-12th)

Do you or your child want to learn how to play the ukulele? Come join us and get a great start learning a musical instrument growing more popular by the minute. Imagine taking a ukulele to your friends or families house or to the beach and being the entertainment for the day. You will learn what it takes to learn this fun yet versatile magical instrument. The class will guide you through single note melodies and some chords that are usable with hundreds of songs. Come join StringTheory6 and make a positive note in this world. Giovanni has been teaching the gift of music with NEISD for 13 years.

Rock Band Drum Class (Ages 10-17)

Do you or your child want to play drums and want to learn to play in a rock band, join StringTheory6 and start rocking some awesome songs in your playlist. You will learn basic fundamental timing and a realistic approach to start jamming with your friends. A performance to show your skills will be held at a future concert recital with other teens in a real band setting. StringTheory6 will give you the knowledge and skills you need to join a band. Concert participation not required to attend class. Giovanni has been teaching the gift of music with NEISD for 13 years.

Acoustic and Electric Guitar Class (Grades 1st-12th)

Does your child want to learn how to play the acoustic or electric guitar? Young musicians will learn some songs using chords and timing including easy fundamental music theory. The possibilities are endless when your child understands music at a fundamental level. The class may be divided into age groups to better serve the students with the curriculum. Giovanni with StringTheory6 guitar lessons has been teaching with NEISD for 13 years.

EKG Technician

This comprehensive 50 hour EKG Technician Certification Program prepares students to function as EKG Technicians. This course will include important practice and background information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography and stress testing. Additionally, students will practice with EKG equipment and perform hands on labs including introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine, the normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement, 12-lead placement and other clinical practices. NWCA National Certification: This program meets the necessary requirements to take the National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) EKG Technician (CET) Exam. NHA National Certification: This program meets the necessary requirements to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified EKG Technician (CET) national examination.
