NEISD - Community Education

Language & Communication - Beginning American Sign Language, Level 1

Learn American Sign Language at your own pace. You will learn the manual alphabet and how to improve your expressive and receptive fingerspelling skills. You will learn signs, but more importantly, how to communicate with Deaf people, building on previously learned material each week. Finally, you will learn about Deaf culture, which will help you understand and communicate better with Deaf people. There is no book required. We will be using the website, www.lifeprint.com, lessons 1-8 as a resource. Instructor Tim Kitterman has a MA from Gallaudet University and has taught ASL at the high school and college level for 20 years. This is a distance learning class held through Zoom. Instructions for logging into Zoom will be emailed by the instructor prior to the first class meeting.
