Art Starz (Grades 1-5)

Calling all artists! Join My Art Starz in a semester exploring a wide range of mixed media that will ignite the creativity in every child. Students will experiment with drawing, painting, acrylics on canvas, chalk pastels, watercolor, collage, clay sculpture and much more. Students are guided through a step-by-step lesson, giving their personal touch to their projects as they learn about color theory, shading and blending, patterns, as well as several other art concepts and techniques along the way. Students make personal choices, contribute ideas, work together and independently and nurture their imaginations all while having creative FUN! Each student will receive one of their masterpieces framed and ready to display. Supplies are of professional quality. A supply fee of $35 can be paid to My Art Starz by calling (210)945-4411, bringing payment on the first day of class or by paying online at www.myartstarz.com. The tuition of $179 is to be paid separately to NEISD Community Ed.

Basketball Skills Academy (Grades 1-5)

Young athletes will take their basketball game to the next level with Valour Nation. Athletes will practice offensive skills and concepts such as shooting, passing, ball-handling and much more. Small-sided games will be incorporated to teach key offensive concepts like the pick and roll, spacing and decision-making that will improve their basketball I.Q. Each skills academy session includes a character lesson to develop a champion's mindset that will set them up for success on and off the court.

Bits, Bytes & Bots: 3D Video Game Making (Grades 3-5)

Has your child ever wanted to build their own 3D Video Game? Here's their chance! Microsoft’s Kodu is a visual programming language (similar to scratch but more advanced) that is used to create video games. Students will learn the basics of 3D game design by creating multiple games in this class. Conditional formatting will be mastered by the time they build their final project. In various games students create power-ups to stun their opponents, create unique one and two player games, master sound effects and more! This course builds skills by challenging students to analyze a problem and structure their solution. Instruction provided by Bits, Bytes & Bots of San Antonio.

Bits, Bytes & Bots: EXTREMEly Engineering (Grades 3-5)

Calling all builders! Bits, Bytes & Bots of San Antonio instructors will introduce students to several different types of engineering and encourage problem-solving along the way! Students will build projects involving motors, rockets, basic chemical reactions and good old-fashioned ingenuity. A $20 supply fee is due to the instructor on the first day of class for take-home projects.

Sneaky learning at its best! Capitalize on your kids’ love for video games by letting them build their own. Their imagination is the limit as they create multiple games to enjoy forever. Brainiac: Reading & Literacy Program (Grades K-2)

This program is designed to meet emerging and beginning readers at their developmental level to build and support language and literacy. This program incorporates reading, writing, oral language, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension all within the context of stories and books. The program is flexible and highly individualized, using whole group, small group and individual instruction to meet the needs of varying ages and developmental levels in one classroom. Complete Chess (Grades 2-5)

Beginner to intermediate students will learn how to become a chess master! Students will learn strategies and piece placement as well as the history of chess and where the game is headed. Chess is a great game that has many positive benefits including critical thinking skills, mathematics, spatial memory, planning, strategic thinking and more. Instruction provided by Complete Chess.

Drama Kids International - Spring Semester (Grades K-5)

To be happy and successful in today’s highly competitive world, your child needs to be confident and articulate. Whether destined for the stage or the boardroom, Drama Kids prepares children to speak clearly and confidently, placing them on an easier path for lifelong success. Our acclaimed program encompasses a large volume of fun drama activities aimed at increasing confidence, self-esteem and verbal skills. These activities include: Speech, Creative Movement, Structured Improvisations, Dialogue Development and Mini-Scripts. Enthusiastic participation is encouraged. Everyone is a star and everyone participates fully! The spring semester concludes with a spring performance with awards. A spring performance fee of $15 for students re-enrolling from fall to spring, and $35 for new spring students, is due to the instructor on the first day of class. Kids in Motion Hip Hop (Grades K-5)

Get your child active and grooving to age-appropriate music and fun dance challenges. Our Hip-Hop class is designed to encourage your dancer to have fun, express themselves and stay healthy through music and art. Students will learn the newest dance moves, as well as some old-school favorites! Young dancers will work on choreography and solo dance moves then create music videos to share with family and friends at the end of each semester. Students should come dressed with closed toe shoes, athletic clothing appropriate for dancing and bring a water bottle to each class. Instruction is provided by Onsite Youth Training.

Mad Science: NASA Academy of Future Space Explorers and Toying around with Science (Grades K-5)

Young scientists will encounter science in a fun, hands-on environment that incorporates the educational standards required by the STAAR test. The six-week NASA topics will include: Living in Space, Sun and Stars, Atmosphere and Beyond, Planets and Moons, Space Technology and Space Travel. Six-weeks of Toying around with Science includes Movie Effects, Science of Toys, Bugs, Mad Machines, Detective Science and Earthworks to give your junior scientist a total of 12 weeks of fun! Young scientists will learn all about outer space, special effects, simple machines, space flight and more with Mad Science of Austin & San Antonio! Exploration will continue at home with take-home projects after each class.

Simply Soccer (Grades K-5)

SimplySoccerSA offers young athletes the chance to learn the fundamental skills and terminology of the great game of soccer. Each week will consist of learning a new skill or two including dribbling, passing, shooting, and control. We will end each class practicing learned skills in a game-like setting. We will also focus on character, teamwork, leadership and helping others which young athletes can take beyond the soccer field. All participants will be required to wear tennis shoes (no sandals/flip-flops/heeled shoes or boots will be allowed to play for safety reasons). Water for breaks and all equipment such as soccer balls, cones and goals will be provided. Classes will be held outside in the fields and will be moved into a gym on inclement weather days (to include days with extreme heat).

Snapology: Battle Robotics (Grades 1-5)

Simple machines will come alive as students build and program LEGO® bricks in this hands-on class with Snapology! Working in small groups, students will learn about sensors, gears, pulleys and programming to create robotic catapults, crossbows, battleships and more! Students will learn about mechanical movement and practice critical thinking skills using WeDo® 2.0 robotics equipment and iPads® to program the builds. All supplies are provided.

Spanish Fun Club (Grades K-5)

This class is specially designed to help children learn Spanish through fun activities in a singular environment. We call it learning without noticing. The sessions are taught entirely in Spanish. The classes provide plenty of opportunities for kids to enjoy the Spanish language and begin speaking on day one. By learning Spanish your child will acquire a competitive advantage for life! Texas Cheer (Grades K-5)

Students will learn all the basics of cheerleading, including cheer stunt instruction, jumps, motions and more in a dynamic environment. They will also have the option to perform in the Texas Cheer and Dance shows throughout the year, including a Spurs Game. Although optional, uniforms will be discussed during the first class. Instruction provided by Texas Cheer and Dance.

Developed by education experts, PGA and LPGA professionals, this program focuses on instilling a passion for golf, developing skills, having fun and building confidence. All equipment will be provided. Maximum student-to-teacher ratio is 8:1. Instruction provided by TGA North San Antonio.

Uplifted Performance: Athletic Development (Grades K-5)

Uplifted Performance and Fitness offers students the chance to enhance fundamental athletic skills plus body and movement development in a fun, interactive team environment. Each week, students will learn a new skill or two with increasing challenges in agility ladders, hurdles, cones and medicine balls that will develop physical-cardio-vascular health and confidence. Each class will conclude with practicing these skills and drills to help students transition into other sports. Students are required to wear athletic shoes (no sandals/flip-flops/heeled shoes or boots will be allowed to play for safety reasons). Students should bring a personal water bottle to class each. All fitness equipment will be provided.

World of LEGO® Engineering (Grades 1-5)

The citizens of Bricksburg are looking for LEGO® engineers to help Emmet create an advanced LEGO® civilization using engineering principles. Emmet, Lucy, Batman, Star Wars® Jedi’s and the rest of the LEGO® family join forces to explore far away and unexplored worlds that test their engineering skills and creativity in weekly challenges. Students will construct a variety of LEGO® models while exploring engineering principles for a complete hands-on experience. Robotics Clubs USA will provide all of the equipment for young engineers to use their superpowers of observation and engineering skills to rebuild and create a new LEGO® world where “Everything is Awesome!®”
