Art Starz (Grades 1-5)

Join us for some creative FUN as we explore drawing, painting and clay sculpture. Students are taught by a professional artist and will learn basic art principles such as composition, color theory and critical thinking skills. They will paint in watercolor and acrylics; draw with pencils and soft pastels; create and paint a clay sculpture that is “TEXAS” friendly and will be kiln fired to last a lifetime! All supplies are of professional quality. A supply fee of $35 can be paid to My Art Starz by calling 210-945-4411, bringing payment the first day of class or by paying online at www.myartstarz.com. Tuition of $179.00 to be paid separately to NEISD Community Ed.

Basketball After School (Grades 1-5)

Are your kids ready to have fun with basketball? This course is designed for your child to have the opportunity to learn and improve on their fundamental skills of basketball. We will develop these skills through specific and proven developmental drills, playing 3 on 3, and playing 5 on 5 games. We will focus on having fun while we play and learn. If your kids love Minecraft™ and spend hours moving blocks around and generally just clicking away, let us elevate their game. We also introduce them to a game modification that we use several times to CODE inside the game. If they're going to play anyway, let's turn their passion into a massive critical thinking experience. Bits, Bytes, & Bots - Stop Motion Movie Making (Grades 3-5)

Turn dreams into reality using stop-motion animation and digital post-production editing to create LEGO® movies. Students incorporate special effects (video and sound) enabling them to experience the overall movie making adventure, all while reinforcing key writing concepts such as introductions, author’s purpose, main ideas, etc. The script is up to their imagination. Sneaky learning at its best! Capitalize on your kids’ love for video games by letting them build their own. Their imagination is the limit to what they achieve as they use GameMaker Studio™ software to create video games they can play on their computers without any special software. We use drag and drop programming to create exciting and professional looking games that they can take home and play with friends and family. Bricks 4 Kidz® After School (Grades K-5)

Bricks 4 Kidz after-school classes build on the universal popularity of LEGO® bricks to deliver a high quality of educational play. Kids construct a new model each week based on exciting themes from space to sports, amusement parks to animals. Our trained, screened Bricks 4 Kidz teachers lead a discussion related to that day’s model, using materials designed by educators to teach concepts across a variety of subject areas. Kids will learn about everything from gears, torque and friction, to geography, space exploration, weather and MORE! Working with a partner, kids experience the hands-on fun of model building, from concept to completion. All of our models are designed by Bricks 4 Kidz model designers, so you won’t find them on the shelves of your local toy store. Free-play time rounds out the hour, giving kids an opportunity to develop their creativity. Plus, each student will get their very own mini-figure to play with during each class, then take that mini-figure home at the end of each lesson plan!

KidTech Technology Classes (Grades K-5)

KidTech students learn how to use computers as a tool for learning, not a toy. While enrolled, students are assigned specific laptops to use in class. All students work with our tried and true typing tutor program, to learn proper touch typing. We teach the basics of Microsoft Office, at age appropriate levels, in an effort to prepare students to do research projects in Power Point, for school assignments. Other activities may include: Simple Coding Activities, Imagine Tomorrow Puterbugs®: proprietary STEM based software for K-2 students, Lego® Robotics, Digital Photography, Phonics, Math and Logic software, Excel Spreadsheets, graphs, and charts. Different projects take place first and second semester, so full year students have the benefit of being able to build on their typing and coding skills, while learning new projects each semester. Students will still benefit from enrollment at any point during the school year. Classes begin 10 minutes after dismissal, and run at 45 min. intervals (plus 15 minutes passing time between classes). Classes will be set up by KidTech, and you will be notified by email of your child’s class time. If your child is not in the first class, and is not in KIN; the child will need to leave school at dismissal, and be brought back to school at the appropriate class time. Let's Dance! (Grades K-5)

Ballet, Jazz and Hip Hop are popular, high energy dance styles that all age groups love to dance, especially kids. Your child will enjoy learning the newest and hottest dance moves to age appropriate, upbeat music. This is a great beginners class designed to encourage your dancer to have fun and express themselves through music and art. You will even create sets and simple costumes for a holiday dance performance at the end of the semester. A one time $15 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the start of class. Classes will be taught by grade level groupings: Kinder-2nd and 3rd-5th.

WOW FREEZE IT! An Adventure in S.T.E.M. (Grades K-5)

Based on the popular movie “Frozen”, students will experiment with a variety of materials as we build and freeze to make scientific observations. Concepts include: Coding, molecular structure, freezing point, absorption/ dissolving liquids, states of matter/making frost and ice, temperature/insulation/body heat, polymers/chemistry, engineering/design, mathematics (statistics and estimation), potential/kinetic energy, chemical reactions, crystal formation, artistic design. Activities include: Olaf’s Snow Cones, Elsa’s Ice Palace, Mitten Science, Ana’s Ice Tunnels, Arctic Animals, Sparkling Snow Slime, Elsa’s Frozen Heart, Super Bouncy Snow Balls, Build the North Mountain, Kristoff’s Homemade Hand Warmer, Magic Foaming Olaf, Elsa’s Frozen Powder, Crystal Snowflakes, Ana’s Art Masterpiece, Freeze Tag/Freeze Dance and more! WOW ZOOM! An Adventure in Engineering & Physics (Grades K-5)

Let the racing begin! After constructing a ramp, students are split into teams where they will design and build "Zoob" mobiles. They will learn Newton's Laws of Motion and how friction and gravity effects speed. Following the "Engineering Design Process" students learn through trial and error, re-designing and re-testing their models to increase speed and stability. There are numerous engineering challenges throughout the week as your child both follows design plans as well as come up with their own designs. This exciting camp sneaks science into the fun, and the kids love it! Each student will finish with a WOW (Worlds of Wonder)certificate of completion. This camp has a low student/teacher ratio and class space is limited. Presented by Donna Twilla of The Whole Child Learning Company.
