Abstract Painting - Online

A paint for paints sake course designed to lift your spirits, free up your creativity and introduce you to the fundamentals of design, texture and color. Unlike creating a piece of work that is realistic and objective, abstract painting will explore the idea of subjective art and creativity. You will experiment with shapes, lines, surface embellishments and creating space using different tools. Bring five ideas and we will expand upon them. Instructor is Maren Phillips, MFA in painting and lifelong artist, passing on the joy of art!

Adventures in Oil Painting: Loose and Juicy to Impasto

Experiment in the rich medium of oil using several techniques to explore the possibilities. Subjects will range from still life to portraiture, using photographs, live models and set-ups. Bring samples of any previous work or any oil painting materials you have. A drawing background is strongly recommended. A more extensive materials list will be discussed during the first class. Maren Phillips, MFA, is the instructor.

Beginning Acoustic Guitar

Have you ever wanted to learn acoustic guitar? Here's your chance to learn how to play some of the best songs in your music library. You will learn everything about the guitar, such as playing chords, music theory and instrument fundamentals. Instructor Sean Slater has a degree in Music Industries Studies and is a private guitar and piano instructor.

Beginning Photography, Chapter 1

Take the first steps to learning the triangle of exposure and how to control light to create great images. We will touch on the different elements of composition that can transform your images from casual snapshots to dynamic photographs. Bring your camera with a manual mode and its instruction manual to class. A valid email address and Internet access are also required for at-home projects. Instructor S. Janette Constantino, professional photographer, has a BFA and an Associates of Science in Digital Photography. This is a distance learning class held through Zoom. Instructions for logging into Zoom will be emailed by the instructor prior to the first class meeting.

Color Theory: Not out of the Tube!

This class is essential for any painter in any medium. Color can be very challenging. Instructor, Maren Phillips will help you explore how to mix the colors you want, as well as understand why and when to use different colors. You will also learn to see temperature and value of colors. During the course, you will complete several projects as you practice the color theory. This is not a dry and boring class, but one that is deeply challenging.

Drawing Basics

At some point, all painters figure out that they need to know how to draw. This is your chance. You will learn how to properly sharpen and hold the pencil. Find new ways of shading, as well as understanding perspective and values. Learn how to draw anything by learning the basic structures in all objects; everything from line to composition. This is necessary information for all artists regardless of how long they have been drawing. Maren Phillips, MFA, is the instructor.

Harmonica, Level 1 - Online

In this class we have "serious fun." It is designed for beginning players and focuses on basic skills: correct breathing, chords, single notes, producing a pleasant tone and rhythm. As much as possible, the music used in the class is based on each student's musical tastes and preferences (gathered via email prior to the first meeting). Typically, this includes tunes from blues, country, rock and pop. A 10-hole harmonica in the key of C-Major is required. Suggested brands are either the Hohner Special 20 or the Seydel Blues Session. For those without a high quality harmonica, the instructor can order one for you. The price fluctuates, but it is usually around $41. The class will be taught via Zoom. Handouts and agendas for each class will be emailed beforehand and music will be downloaded to each student via links to dropbox.

Italic Calligraphy, Advanced - Online

Take your calligraphy skills to the next level! In this two-hour class you will learn how to use liquid ink, gouache and classic italic calligraphy dip pen points to create a one-of-a-kind framed masterpiece. Note: Students will have the opportunity to send the instructor two pages of their italic calligraphy work for critique within one week of the class ending. This is a distance learning class held through Zoom. Instructions for logging into Zoom will be emailed by the instructor prior to the first class meeting.

Italic Calligraphy, Beginning - Online

In only two hours, you can learn to create beautiful italic calligraphy with a calligraphy felt tip pen. Students will learn to write italic letters, including capitals and numbers, how to make guidelines, and how to practice. This class will set you up for a lifetime of calligraphic happiness! Instructor, Anne Posner is an internationally-known professional calligrapher. Note: Students will have the opportunity to send the instructor two pages of their italic calligraphy work for critique within one week of the class ending. Let internationally-known professional calligrapher, Anne Posner help you develop your skills to produce heirloom quality calligraphic keepsakes in this two-hour class. You will create a beautiful framed work of art using words and sentences written with italic calligraphy using two sizes and colors of calligraphy felt tips markers, colored pencils and a special pen to produce a professional looking design. Note: Students will have the opportunity to send the instructor two pages of their italic calligraphy work for critique within one week of the class ending. Discover the format that best suits you or your business. Tap into the key signposts you must have for each chapter. Start your engines, ladies and gentlemen, because we will begin the journey this very evening. You will leave this class with an outline, chapters and character ideas. Instructor, Janice Dean, is the author of "The Way Back Home." A $10 supply fee is payable to the instructor at the beginning of class.

Ukrainian Egg-Dyeing with Dazzling Wrap Around Diamonds - Online

Wow 'em with hand-crafted folk art that others can't easily reproduce. Looks hard, but is super-easy, when taught by our master instructor. This hands-on workshop is a rare opportunity to learn the step-by-step process and unpublished techniques used by world-class craftsmen. You will learn to: create an unbroken pattern of diamonds wrapped around 3-dimensional eggshells that last for generations; embellish them with authentic Ukrainian motifs provided in class; create symmetrical patterns without using math or measuring tools! Watercolor for Beginners

You will explore the types of brushes, paper and paint colors available while learning several traditional techniques like wash, bleeding, dry brush and others. You will create your work from photos and still life. Basic color theory, composition, making of a color wheel, color charts and handling of watercolors will also be covered.
